Kerala Labour Movement

Since its inception in 1972, KLM has played a significant role in addressing the diverse challenges faced by workers throughout the state. Over more than five decades of dedicated service, the movement has emerged as a strong and credible voice for social justice, labour rights, and equitable development. KLM continues to work towards building an inclusive society where workers are ensured fair opportunities and justice.

KLM stands committed for the empowerment of the labour class irrespective of caste, class and religion through social mobilization, decentralized participatory planning, and promotion of good governance, gender justice and environmental sustainability.

Aims & Purpose

Aims & Objectives

The aim of this Society is to work for the Spiritual, Cultural, Economical, Educational and Social development of the Labourers both in organised and unorganised sectors and the well being of their families.

Objectives of the Movement

In order to achieve the above objects, the movement will undertake various programmes.

To help labourers to lead a good spiritual and religious life.

To make labourers real Christ bearers through spiritual revival and to uphold other co-workers to Christ.

To become a Christian Moral Force aiming to re-establish justice when it is denied in any circumstances and occasions.

To inculcate new culture in the field of employment to increase productivity, efficiency and improve responsibility.

To develop leadership qualities, skills and efficiency among labourers to enable them to give effective leadership in various fields.

To conduct cultural and art programmes for the upliftment of cultural development among labourers.

To publish books, journals and pamphlets on various subjects beneficial to labourers.

To give training programmes and educational facilities to labourers.

To provide facilities to get information regarding employment opportunities.

To promote other charitable Societies or Trusts to undertake Housing Schemes, Self Help Schemes etc. for the labourers.

To encourage labourers to start small-scale industries, credit unions and self help groups for their welfare.

To co-operate with similar organisations working for the upliftment of labourers.

To co-operate with Government and semi-government organisations, Universities, Welfare Boards and NGOs to implement welfare programmes.

To promote Welfare Schemes such as Pension Schemes, Insurance Schemes etc. for labourers.

To undertake any other activities incidental to the above or other charitable activities for the welfare of the poor and needy.

Organisation

General Body

The General Body is the ultimate authority of the Kerala Labour Movement.

Composition

Members of the General Body

The members of KCBC Labour Commission.

The Director.

The existing state level Executive Committee members.

The President, General Secretary and Treasurer of the units of the Dioceses.

The State President, General Secretary and Treasurer who completed the term of office just before the existing office bearers.

All individuals admitted to membership and nominees of Diocesan units.

Those elected from Kerala to national level bodies like CWM. This status will automatically terminate once they lose their membership in the said body.

Promotion

Promotion of community-based organizations and systems for the union of the laborers at the local level.

Documentation and information dissemination with regard to labour issues and problems, with special emphasis on the unorganized workers of the nation.

Networking

Networking of the local union of labourers at the regional and state level.

Promotion of rural

Promotion of rural microfinance institutions to replace money lenders.

Skill enhancement

Skill enhancement of the labour class to equip them with new technologies and work culture.

Advocacy and lobbying

Advocacy and lobbying for the unorganized sections of the workers of the country with all the stakeholders and power centers.
