PROMOTION OF LABOUR FORUMS / UNORGANISED WORKERS TRADE UNION ALLIANCE

As a tangible result of the functioning of KLM in the state of Kerala,some of the following forums of the unorganized workers in the State were registered as the trade unions. Through the activities of trade unions, KLM got ample opportunity for legal intervention in the Labour sectors in our state. All forums initiated by KLM have come under an umbrella called Unorganised Workers' Trade Unions' Alliance (UTA), so that the bargaining capacity is multiplied. A new forum for shop employees was initiated this year; Adv. Sherry J. Thomas Varapuzha (President) and Shaju Pulikkottil, Thrissur (General Secretary). Following are the workers forums initiated by KLM. TRADE UNIONS SANGAMAM AT THIRUVANANTHAPURAM

A meeting was conducted by the KLM/ UTA for the leading Trade Unions in Kerala to discuss about the inactivity of the state welfare fund and the new labour laws and policies of the governments. It was conducted in Trivandum Hotel on 29th April in connection with the coming May Day. Mr. Pannyan Raveendran inaugurated the function and Mr. Sebastian Palamparambil presided over the meeting. Mr. Neelalohithadasan Naadar and Mr. Roofus Daniel addressed in the meeting. It was suggested that the KLM/UTA may conduct such gatherings so that the injustice towards the labourers may be addressed under a colourless umbrella. Most of the activities of different trade unions are done according to the views of the political parties who undertake those unions. The leaders of different trade unions participated in the meeting. During a press meeting conducted in the same day it was announced that May Day will be observed to be the "Suraksha Avakasa Samrakshana Dhinam" in Kerala by the KLM/UTA. A memorandum was released which should be presented to the central Govt. through the Members of the Parliament in which dealt with the disparity in providing fund for the security means especially in the new announcement of the pension fund for the unorganized workers.


WOMEN UNORGANIZED WORKERS' CAMP

One of the objectives of the KLM is to empower the women unorganized workers in Kerala. KLM handed jointly with the Women Commission of Govt. of Kerala have conducted a leadership training camp for the women leaders from different areas of Kerala. This was convened on July 17-19 at POC, Ernakulam. This camp was inaugurated by Justice Mary Joseph of Kerala High Court. The Key note addresse were said by Mrs. Rosakutty Teacher, the State Chairperson of Women's Commission. Dr. Lissy Jose, the member of the Women's Commission and Dr. Varghese Vallikkatt also addressed. The camp dealt with many subjects like trade union act, women empowerment, the welfare and other social security schemes in the Kerala State, the Changing world and its challenges, etc.
